The month of July in 2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. All of us at DEC have been affected by the ADA and we plan on spending the whole month to celebrate it, wrapping up on July 24th with our ADA Celebration Picnic.
In honor of the 25 years of the ADA, we’ll be posting Our Stories every day – telling the stories of how the ADA has affected people individually. Today we share Katrina Stirn’s story.
I think the ADA is a good thing. It isn’t perfect, but it has made the lives of people with disabilities much easier. I walk with a crutch and use a wheelchair when going longer distances, and the ADA helped me by giving me a disabled license plate for my car, which allows me to park in accessible spaces. I can enjoy traveling now – and can do so independently — because hotels are required to have certain accommodations for people with disabilities as a result of the ADA.”
