We like to take a moment on our blog to introduce you to the hardworking people that make up our staff at the Disability Empowerment Center. Today we sit down with Jesus Domena, an Independent Living Specialist and Event Coordinator for DEC. He also happens to be our decorator-extraordinaire. If you’ve been to one of our events and see his decorations, you’ll understand!
How did you end up working at DEC?
I heard DEC was hiring, and felt like it was a job I wanted to try out. I interviewed, and got the job. It has been a great experience!
Why did you want to work for DEC?
I wanted to make a career change, because I was in the restaurant industry. I wanted to work with people and make a difference in their lives.
What is your job title and what do you do at DEC?
Peer Mentor/ Outreach Specialist. Advocate for individuals with disabilities. I translate and perform different kinds of outreach for DEC. I love my job!
What is your favorite part about your job?
Seeing my consumers reach their goals.
What does “empowerment” mean to you?
Standing up for what you feel is right, and standing by your decision.
