DEC Success: Jackson

Consumer, Jackson, at WJTL

Jackson at WJTL

Jackson, came to the Disability Empowerment Center with goals to increase his independence, develop his job skills and work towards his ultimate dream of becoming a professional voice actor!

As a DEC Consumer, he’s been building independence skills, such as learning to use public transportation, and developing his jobs skills.

He’s also been working towards his goal of becoming a voice actor.  This past October, Jackson created a voice reel featuring scary and creepy sounds to be a backdrop for our Accessible Haunted House event. His talented voice acting skills made the haunted house a memorable and frighteningly fun experience for all who went through it!

Most recently, Jackson was a guest at local radio station, WJTL,  during their Get Up and Go morning show! He was able to observe the DJ’s, ask questions, and get a behind-the-scenes experience of the life of a broadcaster. Jackson was also interviewed on air by DJ Fred McNaughton and was able to share more about his aspirations for voice acting and what has attracted him to this type of work. Jackson’s job shadowing experience concluded with announcing the weather forecast for the upcoming days. Way to go Jackson!
