Meet the DEC Staff: Kim Carney

We like to take a moment on our blog to introduce you to the hardworking people that make up our staff at the Disability Empowerment Center. Kim CarneyHow did you end up working at DEC?

I heard that there was an open position at DEC, and after hearing about the agency, I felt like it was something I was interested in doing.

I wanted to feel like I was making a difference in the lives of others. I interviewed, and was hired for the job!

Why did you want to work for DEC?

Because I wanted a job where I felt like I could help others and empower them.

What is your job title and what do you do at DEC?

I am a Independent Living Specialist. I give individuals the proper tools, encouragement, and information to live independently in their community.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Meeting others, hearing their stories, and watching them meet their goals.

What does “empowerment” mean to you?

Facing the challenge of overcoming the barriers that our consumers are faced with.
